Derbe ”Skip” Eckhart and his inaptly named Almost Heaven Kennel inspire remarkable venom.
Earlier this month, state Transportation Secretary Allen Biehler testified before the Senate Appropriations Committee in support of Gov. Rendell’s 2010-2011 transportation budget.
After all the talk, rhetoric and demagoguery concerning health care reform, it all comes down to a question of morality. And that question is: Are we as a nation willing to let 45,000 of our citizens die each year because they lack health insurance?
Although the heath care bill was passed by Congress, I must take a moment to applaud U.S. Rep. Charlie Dent with his ”nay” vote against the measure. I believe Dent voted against providing health care reform to special interest groups — and not to the overall public.
In his March 10 ”Your View,” why didn’t John Brinson compare the Obama health care proposal to systems elsewhere in the world, instead of to Soviet bread lines? Probably because to do so shows it in a good light. Nearly every other industrialized nation has publicly funded health care, including the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Israel and Japan. Despite spending twice the industrial world’s average per capita, our results on life expectancy and infant mortality are very average. Yes, our health care system has saved millions of lives but so have other countries’ systems.
I was fortunate to be in Disney in February. As we were about to leave, we looked at the list of entertainment that was there that day. What a pleasant surprise to see the Allen High School chorale group from Allentown was to perform in 15 minutes.
The people have spoken. At least, the people’s representatives in Congress and the White House. We have decided, with the passage of the health care legislation, that once and for all we want big government, and the bigger the better. The monumental change our president promised during his campaign that he would deliver has come to pass. Our lives will never be the same from this point forward. Our country will never be the same.
Writing an e-mail is no t the same as writing a letter with pen and paper. You need to think before you let the ink flow because you don’t want your letter to have messy mistakes. What’s more, a letter may be saved for later. So you want it to be meaningful, and even eloquent, in case the recipient keeps the missive.
Mr. President, we heard you loud and clear. You firmly told John McCain the campaign was over; your arrogance shone through perfectly.
